Arutunoff Learning Resource Center
Library Acquisitions
The John Brown University Library is a partner with faculty in the teaching/learning process at JBU and welcomes and solicits faculty to be subject specialists for library purchases. To facilitate faculty input, the library divides one-half of its materials budget among the academic colleges on campus. Faculty members submit online library order cards. Once approved by a liaison librarian, the cards are sent on to acquisitions for immediate processing. Requests for books or other materials should be submitted to the library before March 15. Requests for new materials or new periodicals should be made the semester before the course they support is taught to allow sufficient time to process the subscription or material.
Circulation
There is no limit on the number of items faculty may borrow from the library. Books, DVDs, videos, and CDs may be borrowed by faculty members for a maximum of six months. Materials borrowed after December 31 are due June 30. Materials borrowed after June 30 are due December 31. Items may be renewed up to two times. All materials borrowed are subject to recall by the library staff. Reference materials and paper periodicals may be borrowed for short periods of time, by arrangement with the Circulation Coordinator.
Reserve Collection
The Reserve Collection is designed to provide easy access to frequently used materials for specific courses each academic term. Faculty may place “on reserve” library materials from the general circulating collection; photocopies of journal articles or chapters from books; or personal items, such as study notes, past tests, etc. Faculty should fill out a form (available at the reserve desk) and submit it to the Circulation Coordinator along with the item(s) to be placed on reserve. Please allow 24 hours for reserve materials to be added to or removed from the collection. All materials on reserve may be borrowed for a three-hour period and must be used in the library.
Note: All items placed on reserve that are not authored by the faculty member placing the item on reserve must comply with copyright law. This includes adding the following information to the first page of copied material: title of journal or book, the copyright symbol (©), and name of the copyright holder (person or publisher). To comply with fair-use guidelines, faculty may place no more than five copies of an article, chapter, book, or other material on reserve.
Research Assistance/Library Instruction
Faculty are encouraged to use the research and instruction assistance offered by the library. Librarians can provide the following services:
- Provide information about library resources that support new or updated assignments.
- Provide research assistance.
- Provide group instruction sessions for their students in the classroom or the library and can be tailored to a specific course or assignment.
- Provide instruction through the creation of video tutorials.
Contact the Instructional and Reference Services Librarian with any questions about library resources, research assistance, video tutorial creation, or library instruction for students.
Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) services are available free of charge to all faculty. Most items that the JBU library does not own can be obtained via ILL. Requested articles typically arrive electronically in two to three days; requested books typically arrive in one to two weeks. Faculty automatically have an ILL account in ILLiad, the library’s interlibrary loan software. To make an ILL request, log in to ILLiad (https://illiad.jbu.edu/) using your JBU credentials. Borrowing periods for ILL books are usually generous, but fees will be assessed on overdue, damaged, or lost items. Check with the Access Services Librarian for renewal of ILL books, or any questions regarding ILL. More information on ILL can be found at https://library.jbu.edu/ill.
Liaison Librarian
JBU librarians are assigned to a specific college as a liaison to better serve the needs of each college. A librarian acting in the liaison role is the primary point of contact for a college. A college may contact their liaison to discuss acquisition needs, instructional services, research needs, embedded librarianship, or other information needs.
Refer to the Liaison Librarian page on Eaglenet to find your college’s liaison.
Embedded Librarian
As an additional service to faculty and students, librarians can be added to your course Blackboard. This allows a librarian to see assignments in real-time and better direct students to library resources that would be of most benefit. Additionally, if granted permission, an embedded librarian can also post announcements about video tutorials, links to databases, and other resources.
If you are interested in having a librarian embedded in your course, contact the Library Director for more details.
Bookstore
The campus bookstore is owned and operated by Slingshot, which operates campus bookstores across the nation. The bookstore orders and sells textbooks, most materials, and supplies needed by students. Faculty are encouraged to assist the bookstore in estimating textbook needs and keeping textbook lists up to date.
Faculty wishing to distribute duplicated materials to their classes should consult with the bookstore manager about packets that can be sold through the store. A faculty member may not profit from such sales except through royalties paid by a professional vendor, i.e., publisher.
All supplies required for a course, including books, must be sold through the bookstore. Supplies needed by faculty such as pencils, marking pens, and memo pads for department use may be charged to the college supplies account. See your college dean for the appropriate account number. All regalia rentals or purchases are handled through the bookstore.
Campus Post Office
Most full-time faculty members will have mail delivered to their offices. The university pays postage on all official business mail. Mail pickup times are posted in the post office. UPS is available through the campus post office. Employees are to direct all personal mail and packages to their home address.
The campus post office is located in the Bookstore.

The Director of Career Development is available for classroom/club Presentations (of any length) and as a resource for career-related issues. Email ejagger@jbu.edu, or simply make a request using this Eaglenet Form.
The First Destination Survey and Report captures information regarding how new college graduates fare in their careers within 6 months of graduation. This information is part of our Institutional Effectiveness initiatives and is used to compare JBU on a national level to other universities. Please join us in encouraging graduating students to share their updated career information by reminding them to take the survey sent to their inboxes (around a month prior to graduation) and by helping Career Development follow up with students who either did not respond to the survey or had no outcome (i.e. were unemployed) at the time of graduation.
Employer/Recruiter contacts: To ensure equitable access to job and internship opportunities for all JBU students and alumni, please encourage any employer or recruiter contacts to first post opportunities on Handshake (app.joinhandshake.com), or, send them to the Career Development office (cdc@jbu.edu) for instructions on how to post on Handshake as well as to explore other opportunities to connect with JBU students. Once they have posted on Handshake, you are welcome to share (best to include the Handshake post link) via other college, department, or major-wide channels you utilize in communicating with students.
Location and Hours: The Career Development office (#145) is located in the Student Development office in WSC. Often, student workers (“Career Development Specialists”) are available to greet and help students with initial inquiries. Staff are often available for 15-min drop in appointments if a student prefers to drop by for an initial connection. Open hours: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Hours vary depending on staff availability.
Faculty and staff resources related to the Career Development Center can be found on the Faculty & Staff Resource page on Eaglenet.
Enrollment Management
Recruitment is a campus-wide effort led by the Enrollment Office. The enrollment team seeks to equip and empower faculty and staff to assist in recruitment efforts for specific academic programs and campus-wide.
The vice president of enrollment management supervises the Admissions Office (located on the corner of Holly & University Streets in the Blood Memorial Building). The Admissions Office coordinates recruitment and admissions. Financial aid functions and work study allocations are managed by Student Financial Services. The Admissions Office monitors enrollment trends and welcomes any suggestions from the faculty for improving on a strong enrollment history.

Computing and Network Services
Faculty and staff receive a network account, which includes a JBU email address, access to network storage space for work-related files, and many cloud-based services. Network services are available on classroom podium computers and office workstations and remotely through VPN access. Wireless access is available in all buildings on campus.
The Eaglenet portal (https://eaglenet.jbu.edu) is a central intranet resource for university services and information and is available on any internet-enabled device. Services include:
- Class rosters and grade submission
- Advising resources for student academic planning
- Course catalog and section information

Copiers and Printing
Networked copiers on campus allow for printing and scanning at several centralized locations. Users must scan in with a JBU ID card or type in a username and password to release a print job or make copies. Faculty and staff have department accounts to which copies and printing are charged.
There is a nominal charge for personal use of the copiers. Faculty and staff have the ability to add money to personal printing accounts via the cloud-based printing service.
Telecommunications
Faculty and staff receive access codes for work-related long distance telephone usage. Personal calls should be limited and any long-distance charges reimbursed to the Business Office on a monthly basis.
JBU Website
The JBU public website can be accessed at http://www.jbu.edu. The webmaster maintains the website at all times. Departments are requested to review their information on the website regularly and work with the webmaster to keep information current and up-to-date.
Public Relations and News Releases
Communication to the public via press releases, publicity, advertising, and special campaigns, and communication of news and information to the general campus community will be handled by the Office of University Marketing and Communications.
Some of the university’s most effective publicity is that which tells about the accomplishments of faculty, students, or departments. For this reason, it is very important to have faculty support in reporting promptly any newsworthy developments such as articles published, services to public and private organizations, and special honors such as election to positions of leadership in professional associations. News, promotional items, and story ideas should be sent to the coordinator of media relations for editing and dissemination among the area media.
The Weekly Beat, a campus publication for all JBU employees, is made available through this office. Please forward general items of interest to the campus community (upcoming events, conferences, thank-you notes, etc.) for inclusion in this weekly publication to the coordinator of media relations.
Registrar’s Office
The Registrar’s Office, located in the Chapman Administration Building, handles details of class registration, maintains records of students’ academic work, collects and reports grades, and supports students as they progress toward completing their degrees. The office is directed by the registrar. Credit summaries for students approaching completion of graduation requirements and diploma preparation are handled by the registrar’s staff. Faculty can access class rosters and submit grades online (both mid-terms and finals) when notified. On-line registration for Fall and Spring semesters occurs each November and March. Faculty and students are notified by the Registrar’s Office when registration is available. Questions regarding registration, grades, classroom reservations, and student academic records can be directed to the Registrar’s Office, x7158.
