ENVAS 3974 Outdoor & Environmental Education Methods

Four hours (Au Sable)
This course equips students with professional competencies in environmental and outdoor education, combining training in environmental education methods (aligned with NAAEE’s six core thematic areas) with practical outdoor recreation and leadership skills. Students will design, deliver, and evaluate inclusive educational programs while also pursuing training in outdoor instruction and safety. Activities include lesson planning, audience engagement, program evaluation, and group leadership, complemented by hands-on modules in canoeing, rock climbing, excursion planning, and wilderness safety. The course culminates in a professional teaching portfolio and field-based practicum, preparing students for entry-level employment in outdoor and environmental education. Offered at Au Sable - Great Lakes. Equivalent to Au Sable Biol/Geog 398 course.
