ED 7613 SpEd 101 AcademyThree hours This course will provide knowledge and practical support for teachers initiating work teaching in the field of Special Education. Various types of exceptionalities in children will be examined including those with pervasive cognitive delays, specific learning disabilities, physical impairments, emotional disturbances, and other health impairments. Also discussed within this course are the legal responsibilities, support systems, and instructional strategies necessary to provide effective instruction for special education learners, including an understanding of Response to Intervention (RTI) and the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process and accommodation plans. The focus will be on the resource room environment and inclusive classroom (co-teaching). Candidates will be equipped to respond to the breadth of needs of children with exceptionalities within the public school system.
