HST 3443 The Modern Middle EastThree hours An examination of the political and social environment of the Middle East from the beginning of the nineteenth century to the present. Topics that will be discussed include European colonization, the Ottoman Empire, Arab nationalism, the Arab-Israeli Conflict, the rise of the Islamist movement, and the U.S. involvement in the Gulf War. Meets the Intercultural Engagement requirement or The Arts and Humanities requirement of the Core Curriculum (cannot meet both core requirements).
