The major in Biblical and Theological Studies provides students with rigorous training in biblical studies, theology, church history, and related disciplines. While the major prepares students for vocational ministry or further studies in seminary or graduate school, it also provides those pursuing other careers with an integrated program of learning emphasizing skills in the study and critical analysis of texts and ideas, focusing on scripture and the Christian tradition. Majors in Biblical and Theological Studies must complete 12 hours of language studies, including at least two semesters of New Testament Greek.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Cognitive Outcomes: We would specifically desire that students:
- Develop the ability to use biblical languages
- Understand how to use standard theological tools and methods
- Practice theological reflection
- Understand the Bible in its literary, historical, and theological contexts
- Understand the scriptural, historical, and philosophical foundations of Christian theology
- Become historically rooted in the great tradition of the Christian faith
Affective Outcomes: We would specifically desire that students:
- Grow in love for God and his global Church
- Desire Christ-like formation in all areas of life for the Glory of God
- Develop concern for biblical justice and embrace the obligation to serve others
Vocational Outcomes: We would specifically desire that students:
- Read biblical and theological texts critically and thoughtfully
- Teach the broad contours of both biblical content and historical theology
- Develop the skills needed in seminary or graduate school
- Serve in a local church, ministry, or other organization
- Communicate biblical and theological ideas in culturally relevant ways
Requirements for the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree with major in Biblical and Theological Studies

University Core Curriculum - 42 hours
Program requirements satisfy 6 of the 48 hours in the Core Curriculum.
- Six hours of the Arts and Humanities elective area are satisfied by two of the following: BBL 3413 , BBL 3423 , BBL 3433 , BBL 3443 , BBL 3453 , BBL 3463 , BBL 3473 , BBL 3613 , BBL 3623 , BBL 3633 , BBL 3663 , BBL 4433 .
