Student Learning Outcomes
- The student will conceive, organize, and lead musical performances and experiences in congregational or worship settings.
- The student will perform, improvise, and conduct at a professional entry level; irrespective of the primary area of performance, functional performance abilities in keyboard and voice are essential.
- Students will develop competencies in music theory (score reading, sight singing, ear training, and improvisation, reharmonization) and will apply these competencies to the creation of chord charts, lead sheets, and arrangements appropriate to various ensembles.
- Students will participate in and lead vocal and instrumental ensembles, demonstrating proficiency in rehearsal techniques, composing, and arranging.
- Students will demonstrate a broad knowledge of music history and musical styles.
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of musical religious practice including music in worship, orders of worship, repertories, congregational song, and service design, and of music administrative structures, practices, and procedures.
- Students will demonstrate a general knowledge of church history, systematic theology, spiritual formation, and ministry methodology employed both locally and globally.
- The student will demonstrate a working knowledge and application of technology and software used in composition, score preparation, electronic music production, studio recording, sound design, and live sound reinforcement in corporate worship settings (Finale, various DAW platforms).
- Students will develop the skill of reflection and expression of thought as it relates to relationships between music, the Church, and culture.
