Integrated Music Studies, B.A.

This degree is an innovative, cross-disciplinary approach to the study of music. Students learn and integrate musical skills and training with a related field of study (such as worship arts, therapy, and business). Graduates are disciplined servant leaders who further God’s kingdom in every community in the world.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will be able to create and realize artistic concepts through performance or academic scholarship within the discipline of music.
  2. Students will be able to demonstrate proficiency in sight singing, ear training, and improvisation and musical analysis.
  3. Students will be able to demonstrate a broad knowledge of music history and musical styles. 
  4. Students will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge and application of technology and how it relates to the field of music and to the area of specialization.
  5. Students will be able to apply the skill of reflection and expression of thought as it relates to relationships between music, performance, and culture.

Requirements for the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree with major in Integrated Music Studies

University Core Curriculum - 42 hours


Program requirements satisfy 6 of the 48 hours in the Core Curriculum.

  

Music & Theatre Core


Ensemble


4 semesters of Ensemble participation from the following - 2 hours must be upper-diviison course work

Applied Lessons


6 hours from one of the following

Voice


Piano


Guitar


Successful completion of the Upper-Division Applied Admittance Exam in the applied emphasis


Any additional hours in applied area will count as music electives. Any hours taken after passing the Upper-Division Applied Admittance Exam will be taken at the 3000-level for upper-division credit. Four hours of upper-division credit is a requirement for performing a senior recital.
