Preparation for Law School

Current trends highlight the fact that law schools are not looking for pre-law majors but, rather for students who have successfully completed a rigorous college degree and who can perform well on the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT). The purpose of the JBU pre-law minor is to assist students of all majors in developing the skills and knowledge necessary for active intellectual engagement in the first year of law school. The minor also assists students as they explore their interest in the legal profession and the possible avenues in which those interests might best apply. To meet these goals, the pre-law minor consists of the following components:

  • specialized courses, which can be taken in conjunction with the degree of the student's choice, as a way to develop the verbal, written, and analytical skills necessary for law school;
  • support from the university's pre-law advisor;
  • LSAT preparation assistance, from the advisor and from fellow students; and
  • an introduction to the integration of faith and the practice of law

Students interested in the pre-law minor should contact Dr. Daniel Bennett, Associate Professor of Political Science and the pre-law advisor at John Brown University.
