Outdoor Leadership, B.S.

The major in Outdoor Leadership is designed to produce outdoor ministry educators and leaders equipped with sound judgment, appropriate technical ability, and effective teaching and facilitation competencies to create safe outdoor learning environments in which to nurture spiritual formation. Ministry opportunities include both national and international settings as camp program directors, wilderness guides and instructors, experiential learning and challenge course facilitators, outdoor educators, conference, and retreat programmers and leaders for children-, youth-, and family-serving organizations such as YMCA, Campfire, Scouting, and Young Life. Opportunities to earn certifications in Wilderness First Responder, Challenge Course Instructor, Kayaking, Canoeing, Swift Water Rescue, and Target Sports are incorporated into the curriculum.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will be able to demonstrate competence in leading discipleship processes.
  2. Students will be able to demonstrate leadership capacities of influence, responsibility, and initiative.
  3. Students will be able to demonstrate technical competence in outdoor and adventure pursuits.

Requirements for the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with major in Outdoor Leadership

University Core Curriculum - 42 hours


Program requirements satisfy 6 of the 48 hours in the Core Curriculum.
