Finance, B.B.A.

The B.B.A. in Finance provides students with an understanding of basic financial management techniques as well as a broad overview of financial planning and portfolio analysis. The purpose is to provide students with knowledge helpful for working toward financial certifications such as the Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and entry-level jobs in financial planning, banking, and corporate finance. Click on the links for more information about certification requirements.

The baccalaureate program in Finance requires 120 minimum total semester hours including courses from four categories: (1) the Core Curriculum, (2) the Business Department Core, (3) the Finance Core, and (4) a minor field of study or electives sufficient to achieve the required minimum total hours.

Students must achieve a cumulative grade point average of 2.25 in all Department of Business course work.

Student Learning Outcomes

In addition to the overall shared student learning department outcomes are program-specific outcomes. The program-specific outcome for finance is as follows:

Finance Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrate understanding of financial principles by applying knowledge and skills to personal and organizational challenges in the field of finance.

Requirements for the Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) with major in Finance

University Core Curriculum - 36 hours


Program requirements satisfy 12 of the 48 hours in the Core Curriculum.

  • The Intercultural Engagement elective area is satisfied by INT 4103 .
  • The Mathematics elective area is satisfied by BUS 2193 .
  • Six hours of the Social and Behavioral Sciences elective area are satisfied by ECN 2113  and ECN 2123 .
