General Business, B.S.



The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in General Business is for those who want an overview of business without in-depth knowledge in a particular discipline. This degree is a strong complement to studies in technical areas (film, graphic design, or engineering). Students may choose Applied Business Programming, Economics, or Leadership as minor fields of study with this major.

The baccalaureate program in General Business requires 120 minimum total semester hours including courses from four categories: (1) the Core Curriculum, (2) the Business Department Core, (3) the General Business Core, and (4) a minor field of study or electives sufficient to achieve the required minimum total hours.

Students must achieve a cumulative grade point average of 2.25 in all Department of Business course work.

Student Learning Outcomes

The student learning outcomes for general business are as follows:

Effective Communication: Communicate effectively and professionally in various contexts using diverse techniques and contemporary media.

Critical Reasoning and Research: Conceptualize, apply, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information to address questions, perform analyses, understand and apply results, reach conclusions, and assess impact.

Business Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrate skills and knowledge relevant to a business focus necessary for professional growth and success in global and culturally diverse contexts.

Ethical and Legal Issues and Christian Worldview: Anticipate, identify, and resolve moral, ethical and legal dilemmas through an understanding and application of the Christian worldview.

Requirements for the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with major in General Business

University Core Curriculum - 36 or 37 hours


Program requirements satisfy 12 of the 48 hours in the Core Curriculum for on-campus, undergraduate students.

Program requirements satisfy 12 of the 49 hours in the Core Curriculum for online students.

  • The Intercultural Engagement elective area is satisfied by INT 4103 .
  • The Mathematics elective area is satisfied by BUS 2193 .
  • Six hours of the Social and Behavioral Sciences elective area are satisfied by ECN 2113  and ECN 2123 .
