Student Learning Outcomes
The Department of Teacher Education, in keeping with the overall goals of the university, expects graduates to demonstrate the following broad learner outcomes:
- Candidates will apply principles of learner development and learning differences to create safe, supportive learning environments in order to work effectively with diverse families in K-12 schools.
- Candidates will apply knowledge of content to developing equitable and inclusive learning experiences.
- Candidates will apply InTASC standards to assessments, plans for instruction, and instructional strategies to provide equitable and inclusive learning for K-12 students.
- Candidates will apply knowledge of professional responsibility to engage in professional learning, act ethically, and work effectively with K-12 students.
- Candidates will be able to demonstrate a broad knowledge of music history and musical styles.
- Candidates will be able to create and realize artistic concepts through performance or academic scholarship within the discipline of music.
- Candidates will be able to demonstrate proficiency in sight singing, ear training, improvisation, and musical analysis.

University Core Curriculum - 39 hours
Program requirements satisfy 9 of the 48 hours in the Core Curriculum. - Six hours of the Arts and Humanities elective area are satisfied by six hours from the following: MUS 1202 , MUS 2133 , MUS 3213 , MUS 3343 , MUS 3433 .
- Three hours of the Social and Behavioral Sciences elective area are satisfied by ED 2143 .
Core Curriculum Courses Music Teaching Field - 44 hours
Voice or Piano Pedagogy
Take one course from Voice Pedagogy or Piano Pedagogy Applied Lessons
9 hours from one of the following

4 semesters of Ensemble participation from the following Professional Education - 36 hours
Minor field, area of interest, or electives as necessary to complete minimum total hours
This academic program requires 1 elective credit. Under federal regulations, financial aid is generally limited to course work that applies to your declared program of study. Courses outside your program requirements, including excess electives, may not be eligible for financial aid. Adding a double major, double degree, minor(s), specialization(s), an Accelerated Master’s Program, or making other changes, may impact the number of elective credits that will be covered by financial aid.
