Student Learning Outcomes

Students earning the B.S. in Criminal Justice from John Brown University should be able to…

  1. Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of traditional and contemporary criminology theories and the criminal justice system.
  2. Demonstrate understanding of the ways in which social inequalities are linked to differential justice within criminal justice systems.
  3. Demonstrate familiarity with data and methods of social science research to respond to contemporary issues in criminal justice.
  4. Demonstrate the written-communication and critical-thinking skills necessary for criminal justice professionals.
  5. Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of significant constitutional rights and responsibilities applicable to the accused and law enforcement.

Note that two of the required CRJ courses (CRJ 3113  and CRJ 3233 ) and one of the elective CRJ courses (CRJ 4013 ) are offered online through consortial agreement with Bluefield University (Bluefield, VA). There are no additional costs for these courses above and beyond the standard JBU tuition and fees.

Requirements for the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with major in Criminal Justice
