Student Learning Outcomes
The Department of Teacher Education, in keeping with the overall goals of the university, expects graduates to demonstrate the following broad learner outcomes:
- Candidates will apply principles of learner development and learning differences to create safe, supportive learning environments in order to work effectively with diverse families in P-12 schools.
- Candidates will apply knowledge of content to developing equitable and inclusive learning experiences.
- Candidates will apply InTASC standards to assessments, plans for instruction, and instructional strategies to provide equitable and inclusive learning for P-12 students.
- Candidates will apply knowledge of professional responsibility to engage in professional learning, act ethically, and work effectively with P-12 students.
Note: John Brown University candidates wishing to take professional education and major field courses off campus or through correspondence must obtain, in advance, written permission from the department chair and the Registrar's Office.
Requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.E.) degree with major in Computer Science

University Core Curriculum - 39 hours
Program requirements satisfy 9 of the 48 hours in the Core Curriculum.
- The Mathematics elective area is satisfied by either MTH 1163 or MTH 1173 .
- Three hours of the Social and Behavioral Sciences elective area are satisfied by ED 2143 .
- The Intercultural Engagement elective area is satisfied by ED 2033 .
Core Curriculum Courses
Professional Education - 46 hours
Computer Science Teaching Field - 32 hours
Lecture and corresponding lab must be taken together.
Mathematics Elective - 3 hours
