Student Learning OutcomesStudents graduating with a major in History will: - Be able to apply a Christian perspective to the analysis of historical documents and the presentation of historical narratives.
- Be able to write an arguable thesis statement and support their thesis with evidence.
- Be able to understand basic historical events, ideas, and people, as well as key ideas in the study of history.
- Be able to analyze primary sources.
- Be able to analyze and evaluate secondary sources.
U.S. History CLEP ExaminationsHistory majors and minors may not use CLEP examinations to substitute for HST 2113 or HST 2123 after matriculating at JBU. Requirements for the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with major in History

University Core Curriculum - 36 hours
Program requirements satisfy 12 of the 48 hours in the Core Curriculum. - HST 2013 and HST 2023 are satisfied in the program requirements.
- Six hours of the Arts and Humanities elective area are satisfied by two of the following: HST 2113 , HST 2123 , HST 2133 , HST 2153 , HST 3233 , HST 3283 , HST 3393 , HST 3423 , HST 3433 , HST 3443, HST 3483, HST 3523 .
- The Intercultural Engagement elective area can also be satisfied by HST 3283 , HST 3433 , HST 3443 , HST 3483 ; these courses cannot fulfill both the Arts and Humanities and Intercultural Engagement requirement however.
