The emphasis in Marriage & Family Therapy (MFT) provides graduate counseling students specialized education and training in counseling couples and families from a spiritual/religious perspective. While adding this emphasis to the M.S. in Counseling degree may meet certain educational requirements for the Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT) designation in some states, the MFT emphasis is not accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy (COAMFTE) and does not meet clinical/relational hours or supervision requirements needed to become an LMFT.
