The Kinesiology program offers an emphasis in Sports Medicine or Health and Fitness. The baccalaureate curriculum can lead to entry into professional degree programs such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant, athletic training, as well as graduate studies in exercise science, education, corporate fitness, and other related health fields.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate core knowledge expected within the related Kinesiology fields.
- Students will design, implement, and evaluate programs for wellness, health, and physical fitness assessments.
- Students will incorporate decision making and skill application in the field of Kinesiology.
Requirements for the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with major in Kinesiology

University Core Curriculum - 39 or 43 hours
Program requirements satisfy 5 (for Health and Fitness Emphasis) or 9 (for Sports Medicine Emphasis) of the 48 hours in the Core Curriculum. - The Whole Person Wellness elective is satisfied by KIN 1002 .
- Three hours of the Social and Behavioral Sciences elective area are satisfied by PSY 1013 .
- Three hours of the Natural Science elective area, including the lab requirement, are satisfied by BIO 1013 (with lab BIO 1011 ) for the Sports Medicine Emphasis.
Kinesiology Major Core - 24 hours
Professional Emphases Options
Students must choose one emphasis to pursue. Health and Fitness Emphasis - 16 hours
The Health and Fitness emphasis is ideal for students interested in conducting individual/group exercise programs and fitness testing in a career as a personal trainer, strength and conditioning coach, or managing a private or corporate fitness center.
Sports Medicine Emphasis - 21 hours
The Sports Medicine emphasis is ideal for students preparing for graduate school in various health related health fields such as physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), athletic training (AT), and medical schools. Kinesiology Major Electives - 6 hours
Six hours from the following; a maximum of six hours of internship are allowed. - Upper-division KIN course work or
