Student Learning Outcomes
The Department of Teacher Education, in keeping with the overall goals of the university, expects graduates to demonstrate the following broad learner outcomes:
- Candidates will synthesize and apply in-depth content knowledge to design interdisciplinary and standards-aligned learning experiences.
- Candidates will be able to design, implement, and evaluate instruction that integrates evidence-based strategies utilizing plans for inclusion and differentiation.
- Candidates will be able to develop and analyze formative assessments to interpret student data and adjust instructional decisions accordingly.
- Candidates will be able to critically evaluate professional practice, engage in reflective growth, and collaborate with stakeholders ethically.
Requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.E.) degree with a major in Elementary Education

University Core Curriculum - 30 hours
Program requirements satisfy 18 of the 48 hours in the Core Curriculum. - The six hours of the Natural Science elective area, including the lab requirement, are satisfied by GSC 1043 and GSC 1053.
- Six hours of the Social and Behavioral Sciences elective area are satisfied by ED 2143 and POL 1013 .
- Three hours of the Arts and Humanities elective area are satisfied by one of the following: HST 2113 , HST 2123 .
- Three hours of the Intercultural Engagement elective area are satisfied by ED 2033 .
Professional Education - 79 hours
This program prepares students for a K-6 Elementary Education teaching license through the state of Arkansas. Minor field, area of interest, electives, or endorsements as necessary to complete minimum total hours
This academic program requires 11 elective credits. Under federal regulations, financial aid is generally limited to course work that applies to your declared program of study. Courses outside your program requirements, including excess electives, may not be eligible for financial aid. Adding a double major, double degree, minor(s), specialization(s), an Accelerated Master’s Program, or making other changes, may impact the number of elective credits that will be covered by financial aid. Please review your degree plan and consult with your academic advisor prior to registering for any course that is not required for your program of study. Courses not covered by financial aid are the financial responsibility of the student. Minimum total semester hours - 120
