EGL 3313 Medieval Literature

Three hours
A study of early English literature from the Anglo-Saxon period through the fifteenth century. Authors may include Chaucer, Langland, and Kempe; anonymous works may include Beowulf, The Dream of the Rood, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Most works are read in translation; however, the course introduces students to broad concepts in the history of the English language. A scholarly paper is required.

Prerequisite: EGL 1023  (or Honors counterpart)
