Student Learning Outcomes

Students graduating with a major in Spanish will:

  • Demonstrate skill in listening, reading, speaking, and writing in the Spanish language.
  • Be autonomous language learners who can use resources such as dictionaries to extend their language proficiency.
  • Appreciate the diversity of populations who speak the Spanish language.
  • Succeed in multilingual settings after graduation from JBU.

Requirements for the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree with major in Spanish

University Core Curriculum - 42 hours


Program requirements satisfy 6 of the 48 hours in the Core Curriculum.

  • The Intercultural Engagement elective area is satisfied by LS 4113 .
  • Three hours of the Social and Behavioral Sciences elective area are satisfied by LS 2173 .

  

One of the following options


Semester in Spain (Seville) - 16 hours


Recommended during the student’s junior year.

Eight hours from the following


Latin American Studies Program (Costa Rica) - 15 hours


Recommended during the student’s junior year.

Minor field or electives as necessary to complete minimum total hours


Minimum total semester hours - 120
