The Photojournalism major combines two aspects of journalism to prepare students for work after graduation. These students will learn valuable oral, written, digital editing, and photographic skills that they can use in a variety of jobs. Classes in both photography and news writing expose students to an assortment of topics ranging from social documentaries to diversity in the media. Hands-on experiences with the school newspaper and an internship give students practical skills and tools they can use throughout their career. Students will leave this program empowered to tell the stories of their communities by using strong visuals and bold words.

Technical Proficiency - Use current technology related to the photography and journalism fields and understand the general concepts of the media.

Creative innovation - Create high-quality work that accomplishes specific goals in new and creative ways.

Message Expression - Express ideas in oral, written, and photographic messages that are coherent, persuasive, and ethical.

Professional Competency - Demonstrate the ability to practice and publish diverse photography at high levels, which should engage in personal, professional, civic and social relationships.

Critical thinking - Think clearly and critically about work and respond to news or issues in a responsible manner.

Collaboration and Teamwork - Work with teams in a variety of environments to accomplish photography and journalism projects.

Message Analysis - Analyze and evaluate verbal and nonverbal messages in differing social, political, and cultural contexts in order to assess their effectiveness.
