Welcome to John Brown University. We are glad that you have chosen to join the JBU community.
John Brown University is committed to offering first-rate academic programs in a supportive Christian community. It is our desire that you will flourish during your time with us by coming to understand God, His world, and His design for your life.
John Brown University is first and foremost a teaching institution, and our faculty, staff and administrators are dedicated to helping students learn. They are excellent scholars and professionals as well as caring people committed to mentoring and advising students. You should take the initiative to get to know them because these relationships may well be life-changing.
This catalog should answer most, if not all, of your questions. It outlines the policies and standards that should guide your educational program here at JBU.

About This Catalog
This catalog contains information about all undergraduate academic programs and courses at John Brown University. While the academic policies in this catalog generally apply to all undergraduate students, some policies do distinguish between on-campus and online students and on-campus and online courses. The following terms are used throughout this catalog:
- “On-campus student” refers to undergraduate students who predominately take courses in person on the main campus. If on-campus students take online courses, then the online course policies will generally apply to them while in those courses.
- “Online student” refers to undergraduate students who predominately take courses online. If online students take on-campus courses, then the on-campus course policies will generally apply to them while in those courses.
- “On-campus course” refers to undergraduate courses offered on the main campus. There are also occasionally undergraduate courses offered online in 15-week formats that would fall under the on-campus course policies.
- “Online course” refers to the 7- and 8-week undergraduate courses offered online.
Any undergraduate students enrolled in graduate courses should refer to the Graduate Catalog for applicable policies.

This catalog contains policies and guidelines for the purpose of aiding students in planning their educational curriculum and is not to be considered a contractual agreement. Program requirements, course content, and other regulations are subject to change at the discretion of the controlling entities within the university.
