The Kinesiology program offers an emphasis in Sports Medicine or Health and Wellness. The baccalaureate curriculum can lead to entry into professional degree programs such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, as well as graduate studies in exercise physiology, teaching, and other related fields.  Students are also prepared to conduct individual exercise programs and fitness testing.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will demonstrate core knowledge expected within the related Kinesiology fields.
  2. Students will design, implement, and evaluate programs for wellness, health, and physical fitness assessments.
  3. Students will demonstrate knowledge of cognitive subject matter as described in the clinical proficiencies section in the Athletic Training Education Competencies, 5th edition.
  4. Students will incorporate decision making, skill application, and attitudes/values consistent within the framework of the psychomotor and affective domain as described in the Athletic Training Education Competencies, 5th edition.

Requirements for the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with major in Kinesiology

University Core Curriculum - 39 or 43 hours


Program requirements satisfy 5 (for Health and Wellness Emphasis) or 9 (for Sports Medicine Emphasis) of the 48 hours in the Core Curriculum.

  • The Whole Person Wellness elective is satisfied by KIN 1002 .
  • Three hours of the Social and Behavioral Sciences elective area are satisfied by PSY 1013 .
  • Four hours of the Natural Science elective area, including the lab requirement, are satisfied by BIO 1124  for the Sports Medicine Emphasis.

  

Professional Emphasis in Health and Wellness or Sports Medicine


Kinesiology Major Electives - 6 hours


Six hours from the following:

    Upper-division KIN course work or

Minor field or electives, to fulfill prerequisites for graduate school in consultation with academic advisor, as necessary to complete minimum total hours


Minimum total semester hours - 120
