Student Learning Outcomes

Students earning the B.S. in Criminal Justice from John Brown University should be able to…

  1. Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of traditional and contemporary criminology theories and the criminal justice system.
  2. Demonstrate understanding of the ways in which social inequalities are linked to differential justice within criminal justice systems.
  3. Demonstrate familiarity with data and methods of social science research to respond to contemporary issues in criminal justice.
  4. Demonstrate the written-communication and critical-thinking skills necessary for criminal justice professionals.
  5. Articulate a Christian worldview in recognizing, understanding, and applying ethical reasoning skills in the domain of criminal justice.

Requirements for the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with major in Criminal Justice

University Core Curriculum - 36 hours


Program requirements satisfy 12 of the 48 hours in the Core Curriculum.

  • The Intercultural Engagement elective area is satisfied by one of the following: HST 3263 POL 3253 .
  • Three hours of the Arts and Humanities elective area are satisfied by one of the following: HST 3263  or HST 3393 .
  • Six hours of the Social and Behavioral Sciences elective area are satisfied by two of the following: POL 1013 POL 3163 POL 3253 POL 4223 , PSY 1013 PSY 3423
